Companies that misread AI’s role will restructure the wrong jobs and lose their best people. The real competitive edge goes to leaders who know where to adopt AI — and where human judgment, relationships, and accountability still matter most.
That’s the “messiness” at the heart of “Messy Jobs: The Work That AI Cannot Reach” — a new book co-authored by scholars from the London School of Economics and HKU’s Centre for AI, Management and Organization (CAMO). The book makes a compelling case: AI doesn’t eliminate careers — it reorganizes them. And most human work is protected by its natural “messiness”: the politics, relationships, and judgment calls that machines simply cannot navigate.
